Mohair
The silky fibre with a halo
Mohair is a luxurious natural fibre that comes from the Angora goat (not to be confused with the Angora rabbit). It’s known for its soft sheen, lightness, and that beautiful fluffy “halo” effect you see in many delicate sweaters. While mohair originated in Turkey, the fibre gets its name from “Angora,” the historic name for Ankara, today most of the world’s supply comes from South Africa, Turkey and the USA.
Mohair is luminous, lightweight, and luxurious. It is is breathable and naturally insulating, keeping you warm without heaviness. It can feel slightly fuzzy at first, but high-quality mohair is soft and becomes more comfortable with wear.
Blending improves strength, elasticity, durability, and wearability. High-quality “Super Kid Mohair” (from the first shearing of young goats) is expensive and blending makes it more affordable.
Our choice is Gazzal’s Super Kid Mohair, straight from Turkey.
